Fatboy Slim @ the Docks Nov.10,2004

Fatboy Slim, originally slated to be at the Toronto Film Studios, moved to The Docks. Opening up was Felix and Gani. Not too bad, but didn't really get the place moving. Maybe it was intentional to make FBS come on that much stronger? Norman Cook really knows how to work the crowd. As you can see by the pics, he interacts with the crowd well. He had some technical difficulties, decks that kept skipping. I think it was the set up on the floor, and being so close to the speakers that messed stuff up. Any time he started dancing a little, the record would skip. Great crowd, everyone was really diggin' the Fat man. He starting of the set with Twisted Nerve with was recently in Kill Bill Vol. 1, other tracks included a remix of The Bangles' Walk Like An Egyptian, Star 69, Ch-Check it out remix, a good Slash Dot remix, Tom Neville - Just Fuck, and closed up with Jimmy Hendrix "Cross Town Traffic"
Good times for all...

Beastie Boys, ACC, Nov.8th, 2004

Awesome show! Opening act was Bob Monroe and his Amazing Mongrels. Yup. A dog circus. Next up for was Talib Kweli. Heard of him before, but wasn't sure what to expect. He was alright. Maybe a little too hard core for the crowd, but his DJ threw down some classic hip hop tracks and Talib rhymed on top. Beastie's set was jam packed, lots of classic Beastie tunes and tracks off the new CD too. Some highlights include... Adrock asking the crowd to sing the words to "Paul Revere", first couple of verses sung by the crowd... Mix Master Mike tearing up the turntables. Crisp, clean and fast as hell. He also dropped various beats under classic Beastie tunes... MCA stopping mid-song and scolding "frat boys" for body-surfing ...

Me and Troy, self portrait ...

I missed UNKLE last time they were in Toronto, so I had to go to this. Wasn't too thrilled about the venue, but what can you do... Overall I thought it was a pretty good show. Richard File did most of the work, and James was a little inebriated according to others. Upon further thought, maybe this was true. Music was a little more "clubby", and less "UNKLEsounds-ish" but either way, good times were had. Hopefully next time they hit TO, in a smaller venue, and a little more "UNKLEsounds" sounding, ya know?
